Revu is powerful, but lacks the ability to configure/save Workspaces for specific tasks.
As example: Markups
The native dock location (bottom) for Markups is not very user friendly. Yes, I can drag it out and position on the side, so I can still see our 24x36 (ARCH D) engineering plan sheets, but it has several issues.
When dragging the Markup palette, only the square around the Markup icon is visible, which makes it incredibly difficult to position where we want. The window drag behavior should be derived from the user's OS environment (in Windows, System Properties, Advanced, Performance, Settings, Visual Effects).
I'm not always creating or reviewing Markups, so I don't need this floating palette all the time. It's really easy to grip/drag back down to bottom, but the next time I need it, I drag it out just as easily, but now have to reposition it the way I need for my window arrangement.
It's nice that I have a floating option, but two things are missing:
- Your dev team should have already incorporated some Registry-saved settings for the floating palette size, so I don't have to resize it each-and-every-single-time.
- Your UX team really missed the mark by not allow users to dock the Markups palette on left/right side of the main application window (so it all moves together when main application windows is dragged from one monitor to another)
Here's where Workspaces come in… AutoCAD products provide an incredible ability to customize the entire UI… I'm not asking you to allow quite that level of customization, however, Workspaces are something Revu could definitely benefit from.
Basically, the idea is to create task-based Workspaces that make it incredibly fast for users to switch between different UI configurations.
Building on the example above, when I switch from full document view, which I use for design related tasks, as I review record drawings, previous versions of plan sets, or client sketches, etc. to now needing to perform a Markup related task, it would be great to simply change the Workspace from 'Design' to 'Markup' and the Markup palette is automagically opened, floating, and exactly where I left it the last time I resized it.
When done with my Markup related tasks, I switch from 'Markup' back to 'Design' and the Markup palette is automagically docked at bottom & no longer visible.
Now extrapolate the rich tool sets that Revu provides users and how many ways providing something as simple as Workspaces would make your product even easier to use.
Thanks for your time and consideration!
Cheers
