Every job has it challenges but there's always something that makes it worth it. Maybe it's your coworkers, the flexibility, or your steady routine!
What's the part of your job that you look forward to?
One the THE very best part of being an Estimator is that I get to see drawings for projects long before most people get to. It's quite satisfying to see a project through from drawings to final completion.
I remember the first time I saw the Chase Center in San Francisco, it was basically a big hole with a lot of people setting up footings. Then I got to see it JUST before it opened to the public.
When you see that kind of transformation, it hits you. When you see the drawings and renderings come to life you feel a part of the project.
Working with my amazing team to create better experiences here for our members of course!
Fixing broken workflows. Fortunately I came into the industry while the paperless transition was in full effect, and there was a huge void of knowledge on software capabilities. It allowed me to establish myself as a trusted fix-it man. There is not much of anything at work more rewarding to me that hearing how much time is saved just by programming a macro, or teaching someone how to export/import information instead of typing it out.
For me, the best part of the job is seeing a project go from drawings on the screen to a real building. As an estimator, I get to see the full picture early on and then watch it take shape just the way we planned. Turning counts and numbers into something real is what makes it all worth it. And of course, when the final number actually matches the bid, that’s a reason to celebrate.
Honestly, all of YOU!! There's nothing like getting to know all of you both personally & professionally and helping each of you have your voices heard.
I've been lucky enough to see so many of you reach personal milestones (e.g., getting married, having kids, moving) or even share in some sadness. Additionally, I've had the pleasure of watching so many of you grow professionally in your careers.
To me, there's genuinely nothing better than sharing in these moments with all of you. So… thank YOU!!! Here are two Unbound photos I stole from @Liz Larsen 😀

Following on from a discussion that I was having with someone the other day, how many of you use a custom profile? And, more importantly from my point of view, how many of you use multiple profiles? I have many profiles - different trades, several for measuring groundworks (civil engineering) alone, etc.. I thought many…
Curious if anyone adds a "time" or "man hours" columns in their markups list when doing takeoff. I have some ideas but unsure if they will actually be useful. For example: 10 LF of footing = 1 man hour. Does anyone have any tips on adding custom columns on their markups for time? I already utilize it for material cost per…
If you choose an area and set the color, line weight and so on, then click out of measurement you have to then go back and redo all the particulars for that item that you are trying to take off. Can this be remedied? Onscreen allows the user to set a group of items to use repeatedly throughout a set of drawings (color,…
In our new lighting projects, we are tasked with adding barcodes to each lighting fixture in a diagram. When printed, these barcodes can be scanned to control the lighting fixtures. It would be ideal to have an option to generate quick, generic barcodes instead of taking pictures, saving them, and then adding them as JPG…
Hi!, I'm a senior technician in an architect office, and I regurlarly do some site surveillance and dificiency reports. I am looking for an app on a tablet to consult plans (pdf format ideally), annotate them with comments (ideally speak-to-text) that will generat a list of comments with a "pin" on the pdf plan localising…
Good Morning Has anyone successfully imported their take-off from Bluebeam via excel into Trimble Contract Master Estimation software and have you managed to link an item in that take off to your database item?
Imagine placing a door symbol and Revu automatically attaching a mini BOQ for leaf, frame, hardware and labor, all rolling up into one smart cost object that updates as you copy or move it.
I would like a .BTX file with all Electrical and AV Symbols in it. I would like to mark up plans for material Takes.
Our company used bluebeam studio on the USA server before we had access to AU licensing. Now we have all AU licenses logging in to the USA studio server, and it tangles itself every day (worse with azure AVD). USA studio login seems to time out and when I log back in it removes the login to the AU license and logs in a…
Can someone please tell me why I suddenly can't access my tools or properties of tools in Bluebeam? I am trying to add my signature as I do every day but today all of a sudden, my saved tool set doesn't work. I can import a new signature .png to Bluebeam but it won't let me access the properties of the tool to change the…
