Copying markups from a checked-in document

I am doing a lot of copy-work copying markups from one document to another. However, I cannot copy markups from a document while it is checked into Sharepoint. It might be a permission- or recognition issue, but it would really save me a ton of time and risk of changing "finished" documentation, if I could copy a markup from a document while it is checked in though opened in Revu, and paste it into the document I am currently editing.
