Hi Bluebeam Team,
I am writing to suggest a feature that would significantly enhance the workflow for users handling large-scale projects: the ability to import markup data from Excel/CSV back into Bluebeam to update existing properties.
Currently, in my industry, we use Bluebeam to assign unique IDs and metadata to hundreds (sometimes thousands) of elements on floor plans. While Bluebeam is excellent for visualization, manually entering data into the "Markup List" for 100+ items is incredibly time-consuming and prone to human error. Bluebeam already has a great feature to export Markups to CSV. However, it lacks the "round-trip" capability. Once the data is in Excel, there is no way to push edited information back into the PDF.
Proposed Solution: Introduce a "Metadata Import" or "Sync" feature that allows users to:
- Export the Markup List to CSV/Excel (as currently possible).
- Edit or batch-process information in Excel (e.g., assigning IDs, categories, or custom column data).
- Import the file back into Bluebeam, where the software matches the data (via a Unique ID or Subject/Label) and updates the corresponding columns (both System and Custom).
Why this is important:
- Efficiency: Tasks that take hours of manual typing could be done in minutes using Excel’s formulas and autofill.
- Data Integrity: Minimizes the risk of typos in critical IDs and project metadata.
- Scalability: Essential for large infrastructure or MEP projects where tracking thousands of components is required.
This feature would bridge the gap between Bluebeam and data management tools, making it an even more indispensable asset for professional workflows. I would love to hear if this is on the roadmap or if others in the community share this need! And I think a lot of engineers/estimators will say you "Thank you" for that feature!
