I’ve been using Bluebeam Revu extensively for measurement workflows, and I had an idea that could make the process much more efficient.
Currently, new measurement markups default to whichever layer is active (or remain unlayered if none is active). It would be very useful if Revu had the option to automatically assign new measurements to layers in sequential order (chronological layering). For example, the first measurement created could go to “Layer 1,” the second to “Layer 2,” and so on, without needing to manually switch the active layer each time.
This would help users keep large sets of markups organized automatically, especially on projects with a high volume of measurements that need to be tracked over time. While the Markups List allows sorting by date, being able to pre-structure the workflow at the layer level would save significant time and reduce the chance of misplacing markups.
In practice, this would be extremely useful where the same item appears in multiple locations within a dwelling. For example, a raking ceiling may occur in several rooms, and each occurrence needs its own specific schedule of materials. Having each measurement automatically assigned to its own layer would allow users to build up distinct measurement parameters (length, area, width, height) for each location without confusion. This makes it far easier to isolate, report, and quantify materials accurately.
A couple of possible approaches could be:
- A setting to cycle through layers automatically as new markups are placed.
- An option in the Tool Chest to create tools that not only assign to a set layer but also advance to the next available layer after use.
I think this functionality would be a big help to quantity surveyors, estimators, and project managers working with complex measurement packages.
Thanks for considering this suggestion, and for all the great work you continue to put into Bluebeam.
