So after using Bluebeam on and off at several Architecture and Engineering firms I keep coming back to major adoption issues with Revu and Studio for internal redlines.
Many firms are stuck in the pen and paper mentality of use a highlighter color to "cross out" markups as they are addressed in the redline/QAQC stage. They use colors to identify status of being addressed.
My dream is to have users status markups as intended and have filters auto dim them as they are closed and not have to setup the markup list filtering on ever single file every time the open them. Because if we can do that then users will status them, reviewers can see via auto dim the quantity at a glance of markups left open/blank or specific status and continue from there. Finally the auditing of projects can then data scrap the pdfs without needing to have a user go in and confirm that yes 300 out of the 321 highlighter markups are actual saying the markup below it is closed.
The reason I can't seem to get users to use markup statuses are few:
- When the colors are crossing out markups reviews can see progress at a glance for each page or pdf just by opening them up.
- UI/UX for Markup Filter and "Diming" sucks. Far to many clicks.
- Keyboard Rebinding for shortcuts for status are needed.
- API access to control the visibility settings of markups.
- External access to back check % of completed markups in a set or directory/session
Fixes:
- Apply a setting or toggle that in one key/button setup can apply "standard" markup filters to auto dim in order to leave only specific status states colorized.
- Allow these Markup filters to be applied via a tool chest controlled by a company and or users (company then users in priority of dev)
- These keys for setting status need to be user customizable.
- Apply basic Java or API access without needing high level access to other tools.
- Help build an open source or native admin tool to allow for Network and or studio sessions snooping of the Status of a directory or Session.
- Allow users to set a preference for a "default" applied filter for markups per their own needs.
Please fix this already. I've tired to automate this but its just not possible at this time unless I'm missing some glaring tool/api that I would love to know about so we can deploy a solution to our Firm.
