I'm a sustainability consultant doing quantity takeoffs (lengths and areas) from architectural floor plans for environmental impact calculations (LCA/embodied carbon, classified by building element type — exterior walls, interior walls, floors, roofs, etc.). Right now this is done manually in Revu, measuring each element by hand, which is slow and repetitive.
The floor plans I receive vary a lot from project to project — different architects, different CAD/BIM software, different quality etc. I'm trying to understand how far Bluebeam Max's AI features can actually help here, specifically:
- Magic Wand / Magic Markups — do these tools support detecting and measuring elements (walls, room/floor areas) across an entire drawing automatically, or do they mainly replicate a pattern from one markup you've already created manually? I.e., can it scan a whole sheet and find "all exterior walls" on its own, or does it need a seed markup first?
- Revu + Claude (MCP) integration — can I prompt it with something like "find all exterior wall lines on this sheet, create polygon/length measurements, and put the totals in a table by element type"? Has anyone tried this on real, messy architect-delivered PDFs (not Revit-native files) and gotten reliable results?
- Accuracy on non-standardized drawings — has anyone benchmarked these AI tools against manual takeoffs on drawings without consistent layers/CAD blocks? How much manual correction is typically still needed afterward?
Any real-world experience would be really helpful!
