We're looking to invest in some estimating software and was just wondering whether Bluebeam is capable of doing what Planswift does
I use Bluebeam because I can easily manipulate drawings, customise markups to clearly detail what has been measured, add custom columns so my markups can be allocated to sections of work, etc.. I looked at several other packages but none of them offered me the flexibility that I needed to create different workflows for different trades.
@Peter Jury, I had a similar question on comparisons because PlanSwift is much more intuitive but the things required by Bluebeam to do takeoffs are hidden in tabs and tables where in PlanSwift I could make folders to store all my QTO takeoffs and the legends were much easier to customize.
What did you end up learning?
I don't use it for estimates but if that's a focus of your workflow, I would think you could make a custom profile where the tools you need are set to be easier to find. From custom Tool Sets to custom toolbars.
I have different profiles for measuring different trades - I even have several profiles just for measuring groundworks including foundations, external works, retaining walls, drainage, etc..
This is because not only do I only need certain tools for each workflow but I also have custom columns which collect specific information which I need in order to complete my tenders.
My tools are easily accessible but also many of them automatically generate the information for custom columns e.g. a sewer run from an internal SVP (foul drainage) will self populate with the fact that it starts with an SVP, it will be 100mm diameter pipe and in UPVC and the trench will have as dug back fill. For this item all I will need to do is enter the details of where it ends such as a manhole or joining onto another drainage run.
That sounds impressive @vfrench maybe you should make a how-to video.
Hi @Luke Shiras
This is a link to a video where I demonstrate the drainage workflow. You'll see as I am marking up much of the information required in the custom columns is prepopulated leaving the absolute minimum of manual input where there are 'variables'.
There are also a few 'bonus' bits in here such as exporting to Excel, copying markups from one scale to another, using the lasoo tool, etc..
Very nice, @vfrench!
Most of that went over my head but I could see how useful it was, @vfrench. Thanks for sharing.
Hi folks, This question came in from a sales associate. Has anyone found a way for Bluebeam v 21 to sign the user when the desktop app is closed? It's not a native capability according to Bluebeam Support website but it kind of sounds like a script can be created for this. Thank you for looking. Vinnie
What's up community?! I am struggling with an efficient procedure to create bookmarks in bluebeam. I know how to create bookmarks and parent/child formatting. I want to know if it is possible to write a script or if a default method exists to have bluebeam create a parent bookmark such as electrical, mechanical, plumbing,…
Anyone have issues with the ability to organize there layers? Mine is freezing up and not allowing to be organized? I can still add new layers, but I am not able to move them around and organize them into groups.
I purchased Bluebeam. I'm co—owner of a small civil contractor. I'm multifaceted; project management, estimator, and sometimes superintendent. We bought Bluebeam for the following reason: "Systematically increase our ability to bid and win projects". Right now, it feels like there is too much to learn in Bluebeam. What are…
I have some custom tool sets that recently have been showing these small numerical boxes. See attached. Not sure how they showed or how to get rid of them. Please help
Does anyone know why no recent files are showing up in my file access after updating this morning?
I am new to my role and position. I am having to use templates that were already made by a previous employee who is no longer with the company. The templates must be locked in some kind of way because editing is impossible/limited. SOS. (i am too new/inexperienced to make new templates). The templates are of roof details…
Could someone guide me on how to initiate and complete a Secondary Steel (For an Example: Bent Plate, Angles, CMU Wall Supports, Sill Angle….) project using Bluebeam? A video tutorial would be preferable for better understanding.
Hello, I've read a few forums on here with the same issue. I'm using an M3 MacBook pro with parallels and windows 11 installed. When I open Revu 21 the sign in screen is blank but I some of the buttons work, seems like they are just invisible. I was able to sign in by guessing where the text box is and the sign in button,…
One of my co-workers cannot get the sign in button to work at all, flashes for a second then goes back to "Sign in". Tried switching / resetting profiles, restarting. Really trying to avoid re-install.
