Accidental Right Clicks = All Control Points Lost

Problem: When using any measurement or markup tool involving multiple control points, if the user right clicks by accident before the tool has finalised the lines/shapes, all control points are instantly lost.

I can sometimes spend up to an hour marking/measuring very complex plans with hundreds of control points. One accidental Right Click, and it's all gone and I have to start from scratch. Frustrating as hell.

I feel your pain @Hong Man! I've had this happen in the past - though I can't say that I've every spent an hour working on a single markup!

One of my "best practices" to avoid these issues is to break the larger areas into smaller areas while I'm taking them off. That way if I "mis-click" I don't use a large chunk of work. I've even started using 0 point lines so that you don't see the borders if that is important to you.

What are you measuring that is so large and has that much detail?

Thank you for your response. Breaking up the area is fine for general markup purposes, but I the majority of the time I am measuring with the Area Tool and taking off both M2 and Perimeter. Introducing smaller areas would affect the perimeter measurement.

I work primarily with architectural plans for large commercial fit out buildings (finance and law firms mostly). Lots of drawing around small finicky details, columns, partitions, finishes, floors, that sort of thing.

Tbh 95% is probably 30 mins or less but I have most definitely spent around that time, nearly finished and mis clicked right near the end multiple times so the overall time is 1hr+

The workaround I implemented myself was by setting up a hot key macro to toggle right clicks on/off with 3rd party software. Trouble is I rarely remember to use it 😅

@Hong Man I will propose the opposite of @David Cutler :).

Instead you could capturing a large "rough" area with the perimeter tool. Then go back and tweak it with the SHIFT key.

Holding shift and clicking between two control points will allow you to ADD a point mid-span. This is helpful when I want to run a straight light down a building perimeter then zoom in to add an detail and buck-outs.

You can also hold shift on an existing control point to delete it (you see a small "-" minus sign over the point.

I like it @forrest.simmons! @Hong Man could also use "polygon cutout" - if he isn't already using it - to remove area from the larger area.

Did you know that if you have matching "polygon cutouts" you can copy them? Simply hold down the Ctrl key and left click/hold the boarder of the cutout and then drag to where you need the copy. Works very slick for large parking lots with the same sized islands.
