Snapshots saved to my tool sets go blank & become locked if accidentally added to a document.

For some reason I was banned and the prior discussion has been removed.

The last email I received on 6/01/2026 is this:

Justin - BHA answered your question: How to unlock a grayed out snapshot.
I have been having this same issue with blocks saved to my tool sets. They will go blank in the tool set, and if I accidentally click on one of them, they will get added to my drawing and permanently locked. The snapshot, or whatever it was, will also be blank. See below that the lock option is grayed out.

There has been no answer to why this happens or how to remove to the locked, blank snapshot from the page that has resolved the issue.

Tell me more about the PDF you're working in, and where the snapshot came from. Any chance they are in a Bluebeam Session or from a signed/locked document?

I created them from the documents that I review. Not locked. Not signed. Not in a Session.

The Snapshots go blank in the toolchest over time.

#177 is a group that included a snapshot and is partially blank.
#179, 180, 182, 189 are totally blank.
#183 is a snapshot that has remained stable.

I've seen similar behavior before. If the snapshot is appearing blank and the Lock option is already grayed out, it usually points to the snapshot becoming corrupted rather than simply being locked. I'd recommend removing that tool from your Tool Chest, recreating it from the original PDF, and checking whether the issue still occurs. Also, which Revu version are you using? If multiple users are seeing the same behavior, it may be worth reporting to Bluebeam Support as it could be a bug.

I am using REVU 21.

I sent it to technical support once I knew how to word it (Thanks Justin!).

Here is what I received back:

Thank you for the files. So, the blank snapshots will need to be recreated since there is data loss and it's unrecoverable. Before recreating the snapshots, please change the following:

Solution 1 - Edit FeatureFlags.xml

Close Revu
Navigate to Bluebeam Software\Bluebeam Revu\21\Revu and open FeatureFlags.xml
Change <Feature Name="ToolChestUseNew" Enabled="True" /> to say: <Feature Name="ToolChestUseNew" Enabled="False" Protected="True"/>
Save

Solution 2 - Disable Vector Snapshots

Click the Revu menu and select Preferences
Click Tools on the left column
Click the Markup tab.
Uncheck Take Vector Snapshots.
Click OK.

Then recreate the snapshots and save a copy of the .btx toolset on your Desktop or Downloads folder so you can re-import them without recreating them every time. After, we will want to see if the snapshots still go blank.
