Can you turn off text recognition with the highlighter tool?

When using the highlighter to mark completed changes, it often jumps into "text" mode every time it goes over letters, etc. Is there a way to turn this off so I don't accidentally highlight a bunch of text? I know you can hold down the CNTL button, but I'd like something that works more smoothly.

Hold down shift to remove or add the text mode based on where your courser is.

@gringojosh not a direct answer to your question, but have you considered setting the Status of completed markups rather than highlighting (which adds a new, discrete markup to the document)? You can define a status to change the color of the text to easily see that it has been completed and/or filter out markups with a certain status. Then you don't get extra, disconnected highlight markups cluttering up the PDF.

(I like to have the Completed status change the text color to Pastel Red. Yellow text is easy to overlook and almost impossible to read, whereas Pastel Red is less 'forward' yet still easy to find at a glance, plus it feels close enough to 'yellow' to make sense as a stand-in for traditional highlighting.)
