In Bluebeam Revu, area units are currently tied to the UI language:
- English uses sq m
- Many EU locales use m²
Although these represent the same physical unit, Revu treats them as different units internally. As a result, area measurements using “sq m” and “m²” do not sum together in quantity take-offs.
This is not an isolated case. A similar issue has already been raised in the community, for example by UK users asking why metric areas are shown as “sq m” instead of “m²”, with no available solution:
- “United Kingdom metric measurement for square metres is ‘m2’ and not ‘sq m’ – can I alter?”
For international and multi-language teams this leads to real, practical problems:
- Incorrect quantity totals in shared PDFs
- Rework to recreate measurements depending on language settings
- Risk of errors in cost estimates, BOQs and sustainability calculations
At the moment, there is no way to standardise the unit label independently of the UI language.
Suggested improvement:
- Treat “sq m” and “m²” as equivalent units internally, or
- Decouple measurement units from the UI language, or
- Allow users to define a standard unit label for quantities
This would significantly improve Revu’s reliability for metric workflows and cross-border teams.
