The Microsoft trend is to have scroll bars become narrow or invisible when you're not hovered over them, but that removes valuable "place" info and makes it harder to click onto the bar to drag it, and the space freed up by the missing scroll bar isn't used for additional viewing real estate - it's just wasted space that no longer conveys information. Bluebeam does better with this - at least the scroll bars just narrow instead of disappearing completely, but to a similar effect as Microsoft's. Can the scroll bars just be left full width?
