Often in civil work we have a product that is a fixed width - 5 foot wide sidewalk as an example. Currently we measure this by clicking along the full perimeter of the sidewalk.
The suggested tool would allow you to set an offset width - 5 ft for the sidewalk example above - and then click along one side - or the centerline and output an area as the measurement.
Note that this would be similar to how a wall area is calculated, but as an area tool the area measurement would be displayed in the standard "area" measurement column.
