Erase PDF Content is a powerful tool - sometimes too powerful. It's a bit of a "nuclear" option as once the content is erased you cannot get it back (unless you have a backup copy of the file).
My suggestion would be to add a tool that allows you to hide PDF content with a tool similar to the Erase PDF Content tool, but rather than wiping it clean off the face of your PDF you would have the option to "unhide" the content. This would be helpful when you want to hide portions of the background image temporarily, but not all.
