Please add the ability to measure the length of a sloped curve to the perimeter tool. I am consistently measuring guardrail lengths along curved staircases and have to manually calculate the total length of the guardrail. On straight staircases and slopes I am able to use the Length tool to accurately perform my takeoffs.
So you're looking for the real-world length (in three dimensions) of the handrail. You can do this easily for straight runs but not for curved runs, correct? How do you do it now (what's the math/method/formula?)
My instinct (and what you're probably doing already) would be to take the length from the plan (a) and the stair rise (b), then use the formula a² + b² = c². Solve for c. Keeping in mind that handrail extensions might be level but it looks like you're not dealing with that in your example.
Correct. Currently, I'm measuring the horizontal distance and elevation difference then using the Pythagorean theorem to determine the length of the slope. I use it for guardrails, handrails, ramps, etc. Pretty much everything on a slope. As a general rule, I keep any horizontal, non-sloped, sections separate from the calculations.
