Copy command prioritizes selected count values over highlighted text, any way to change this?

I noticed that if you have a count selected and then highlight text on the document, the copy command will prioritize copying a value in the count's label column, and if that is blank it uses the next value to the left. This has brought some issues to my current process as I now have to first deselect the count, then switch to text highlight to copy paste a value into separate column. It would be much faster if I were able to prioritize copying the newly highlighted text instead of a value within the count.

Does anyone have a good work around or fix for this?
