When I type a number and try to move it it rotates and I can't line it up the direction I want it to be. Why / how do I keep it from auto rotating?

When you say "I type a number", do you mean:
"When I add a Text Box to a page and type a number then click the Text Box and drag it to another location" ?
That sounds like Rotate View is on - when that is used the markups will change to the Page orientation after you finish typing. Try Rotate Page, make the markups, then rotate the page back (if needed).
