Individual Mark-ups Retain Original Layer Identity After Group and Ungroup

I apply markups on top of each other to represent takeoff items for estimating. Each markup is on a separate Layer so that they can be toggled on and off for clarity. I will then group these markups and add them to the Tool Chest for repeat copy and paste. These pasted markups are then Ungrouped so that I have individual counts for each markup item.

The problem is that when you Group the Markups, each markup assumes the Layer Identity of the most up front markup. Then when you Ungroup, the back and middle markups no longer have their original Layer Identity, so I have to highlight those items in the Markup List and re-assign to the correct Layer.

Any way to make the back and middle markups retain the Layer original assigned?

I don't spend lots of time using layers. When you group the markups, do they still show their individual layers in the markups list or do they get overwritten by the first item of the group? I get that when you ungroup they are overwritten, but does the override occur at time of grouping? In other words, if you didn't turn it into a tool, would it do this to the middle markups anyways?

The override occurs at the time of Grouping. If you drill down into the Group on the Markups List each Layer is now changed to the Layer of the most Front Markup.

That's what I thought. I think the only way around it is to use custom columns that would pull the information in and slap them into place for you, but I'm not totally certain if that would even work. My understanding is the only way to control it is to change which item is selected first. That is something I struggle with too, and I think is just the sort of thing written too deeply into the code of Revu to fix with a single update. You get my vote though nonetheless.
