Area measurement abruptly completes, Turned out to be a mouse issue.

Came across an issue that may be worth noting.

I frequently use the area measurement tool to outline a large building (picture the floor of a large apartment building, each with its own balcony sticking out). There are dozens of direction changes before I complete the outline. Shortly (coincidentally) after upgrading to Revu 21 a problem started where I'd be half way through the area and it would "self complete" as if I'd hit the enter key, requiring me to start over. After many instances of this I opened a case with Bluebeam software with many notes and logs going back and forth to no avail. Support finally suggested I try a new mouse.

I had been using a dongle-connected mouse with the dongle on a laptop docking station sitting on a battery backup (potentially interrupting the signal when the mouse is moved to just the right spot on the pad hanging from the keyboard tray beneath my desk). Because the dongle also connected my keyboard, I switched to a Bluetooth mouse so I didn't have to change out the keyboard as well. Several weeks went by. The problem did not occur. Out of curiosity I switched back to the dongle mouse. Within a few days the problem was back Kind of proves something. I suppose I could rearrange my desk for more proof but….

I had done a few searches on this and other forums and found nothing related. Hopefully this post will be of use just in case someone else runs into this.

Its great you figured out the issue but I've got a tip that should help in the future.

You can modify lines (add/remove control points) in Revu by holding down the shift key.

Holding shift and clicking between two control points will allow you to ADD a point mid-span. This is helpful when I want to run a straight light down a building perimeter then zoom in to add an detail and buck-outs.

If you hold shift and hover over an existing point you can delete it.

Thanks for coming back to post this. It's the kind of fix that's easy to miss, because everything points at the software when the cause is the mouse. If the dongle drops or garbles the signal, the area tool can read it as a finished outline, which would look exactly like Revu pressing Enter for you. It would also explain why it only showed up on long outlines with dozens of direction changes, since each point is another chance for the signal to glitch.

Your test makes a strong case. It was fine for weeks on Bluetooth and came back within days on the dongle. A dongle behind a docking station and a UPS, with the mouse under the keyboard tray, is a classic interference setup. If you want more proof without rearranging your desk, I'd try a USB extension cable to bring the dongle up near the mouse, or a wired mouse to rule it out completely.

I'll be passing this tip on to anyone who measures large areas, because it's so easy to blame the software. Thanks for sharing it and well done to the support team for finding it.
