With the introduction of MIP support in Bluebeam Revu, users can successfully open and view protected PDF files. However, these files are currently treated as read-only and cannot be used as source documents for document-processing functions such as Overlay Pages.
According to feedback received from Bluebeam Support, this is an expected limitation of the current implementation.
Please consider adding support for Overlay Pages on MIP-protected PDF files to the Bluebeam product roadmap and evaluate whether secure processing of protected documents can be implemented while fully respecting Microsoft Information Protection controls.
Requested Enhancement
Allow Bluebeam Revu to process MIP-protected PDF files in Overlay Pages when:
- The user is authenticated.
- The user has permission to open the document.
- The user has permission to view the document content.
The feature should respect all MIP security controls and should not bypass or weaken document protection.
The proposed enhancement should:
- Honour all Microsoft Information Protection policies.
- Verify user permissions before processing the document.
- Prevent extraction of content beyond what the user is already authorised to access.
- Maintain document classification and protection metadata where applicable.
- Continue blocking operations when MIP policies explicitly prohibit processing.
