How to fix a Set/.bex file that opened yesterday but not today?

Hi All,

I have been using the same Set/.bex file for months now with no problems. However, today it will not open on Revu. I can open other Set/.bex files just fine. Are there any troubleshooting/ rebuild step out there I can try?

I'm running Revu Complete Ver. 21.10 on Windows 11.

Thank you for the reply.

The number of files in this Set is relatively large. I would easily spend a full day backing up and checking links. I will do that if it comes to it though. So I tried your step 5 first. When I tried restoring my settings I received an Error Loading Structure message.

When I try to open my .bex file a small window flashes at the center of the screen faster then I can read it. Then nothing. Usually when a set is open the Open Set button in the Sets menu is greyed out. It is still active when I do this. That tells me Revu isn't able to process my file.

Any other thoughts or am I rebuilding my set today?

Hi Ian,

Since other ".bex" Set files open normally, the issue is likely isolated to this particular Set or one of its referenced PDFs.

I’d recommend trying the following:

1. Make a backup of the ".bex" file and associated PDFs.

2. If the files are on a network/cloud location, copy them locally and try opening the Set again.

3. Check whether any PDFs in the Set were recently moved, renamed, deleted, or replaced.

4. Try opening the ".bex" file on another computer.

5. If it still fails, try resetting Revu settings after backing them up.

If the Set fails to open on multiple machines, the ".bex" file itself may be corrupted. In that case, restoring a previous version/backup or rebuilding the Set may be necessary.

Also, does Revu show an error message, freeze, or simply do nothing when you try to open the file? please tell, thank you
