Rotating Custom Tools

Question

I want to create a symbol for a recessed 2x4 and be able to use it for my take-offs.  I'd also like to have the ability to rotate it to match the layout on the drawings.  Is there a simple solution to this?  The ones I create now can't be rotated and I really don't see the need to duplicate it just to rotate it as a new tool.  Thanks for your help!

You can also use Search Image, then under results you can A. You should still be able to rotate/move the symbols after they've been counted. And if you are removing and adding you can run it again. You do need to be a little careful with this to be sure none were missed, but it should get the majority, if not all of the symbols. Make sure it is searching the whole document or relevant pages, and don't include duplicate detail pages.

@tteel exactly, that's the limitation! With the count tool you're not limited to the preset shapes (circle, square, triangle), you can turn any item in your toolbox into a count too, like your 2x4. But once it's a count, it can't be rotated, so it just stays in whatever orientation you designed it in. To get different rotations you'd need to create a separate count for each one, and that gets messy fast.

So for designing drawings I wouldn't use the count tool for something like this. Technically you could just place the actual items (rotating them as you go) and count those, but honestly the cleanest way is to design the drawing with the actual items, flatten it once it's done, and then place your standard preset counts on top. Gives you the correct visual and a clean count without the mess.

I thank you both for the responses, it's truly appreciated.  I would like to provide a little more information to clarify my need.

I've created custom symbols by using the markup tools and added them to my tool chest.  I need to use these for "count" purposes, so after I choose the "create count" function, it no longer supports rotation functionality.

That said, is there a way to adjust the symbols rotation when the symbol is being used for counting on a drawing?
