Why can't I drag and drop a layer into a layer group?

Question

I have a number of layers set up and I want to group them.

The manual says if I create a layer group I can then drag and drop a layer into the group.

But I am completely unable to drag the layer anywhere.

Why would this be?

Hi Kate. I would check to see if you have the "Sort Layers Alphabetically" function enabled. If you do, you will be unable to drag/move layers. If this is not the case, please let me know and I will continue to assist.
