Please for the sake of everyone's sanity run OCR as a background process. Locking up Bluebeam entirely for this is absurd.
The workaround for this is opening a duplicate instance of Bluebeam and using it to run OCR on any particular files as needed “in the background”, and meanwhile you are free to continue working normally on anything else in the original instance of Bluebeam.
You can open a duplicate instance of Bluebeam by holding SHIFT and left clicking the Bluebeam icon in the Windows taskbar. You can also double click the Bluebeam shortcut icon on the Desktop.
Technically, you could open as many instances of Bluebeam as you want with only one file per instance, or any combination of multiple files organized into project “workspaces” per instance.
That being said, I would not recommend running more than 2 instances at once while actually doing meaningful work because this increases the chance of Bluebeam crashing. File recovery can get wonky when multiple instances crash at the same time, or you could accidentally do work on a read-only copy of a PDF if it’s open in multiple instances. Either way, all progress is lost and unrecoverable. GG
