IDEA: Enable the Search tool (both text and visual search) to operate within a selected range of pages rather than only per-page or entire-document searches.
NEED: In construction drawing sets, it is common for groups of sheets to share the same keynote numbering, while other sheet groups reuse the same numbers but assign them to different keynotes. During takeoff, the ability to search for keynotes within only the relevant section of the plan set is essential for accuracy and efficiency.
Currently the options are either searching individual pages or the whole document.
For large project drawing sets, searching the entire document significantly increases search time and produces an unnecessarily large number of results—many of which are on sheets that the user does not need to review. While whole-document search does correctly display the page names in results, the performance slowdown and excessive results list reduce its usefulness in large projects.
The limitations are even more pronounced with Visual Search, which becomes impractical when run across an entire large document. Visual Search is most powerful when focused on a controlled set of sheets, but currently cannot be limited to a page range.
VALUE: Adding the ability to run Text Search and Visual Search on a user-defined page range would:
- Greatly reduce search times on large plan sets
- Minimize irrelevant search results
- Enhance the usefulness and speed of Visual Search
- Eliminate the need to manually run separate searches on dozens or hundreds of individual pages
