How to track version history

What is the best method to track version history. What I am looking to accomplish is having a combined set of my submittals to a general contractor that when they respond with AAN or R&R I can add that to the combined set and make it the new version of that set. When I want to look at past versions I can toggle between the two drawings. I am currently going to use hyperlinks to spaces but want to know others best practices here.

If you want to be able to see past versions per sheet, then use Slip Sheeting to accomplish what you want to do. Start with the oldest version of the plans and build up adding newer versions as you go until current. In the options, be sure to select "Insert Revised Pages before Current Pages" to keep the old version just crossed out. FYI - if you are talking about a set that will become unwieldy with that many sheets (i.e. 500+ sheets x3+ revisions), you may want to consider breaking the sheets apart and then joined into Sets first.

If you want to have access to entire submittals, one version at a time, you could create a dashboard with hyperlinks to each version within that.
