Hey guys, my name is sam, fairly new user. I was sent a set of pdf's that are scale protected, so blue beam will not work is there a way to unlock these at my end or do I need to reach out to the engineers to unlock?
thanks
If you have time for them to get back to you asking for an unlocked set is the cleanest path @Aussie Welding. Explain to them how you are looking to use the PDFs and perhaps you can shift how they send PDFs out in the future. Often they don't know the problems that they are causing for downstream users…
If you don't have the time search "locked pdf" on this site. There are multiple threads on how to unlock PDFs.
Let us know how you make out with the Engineer.
Hope this helps. 😎
Try "I Love PDF" (https://www.ilovepdf.com/)… sounds like BS, but it's legit - the site has a suite of PDF tools and my firm uses it all the time to unlock files. We deal with the issue regularly with crane manufacturers locking their downloadable product literature. We typically need to extract only dimensional info, not all the load chart data, from their locked PDFs and the "Unlock" feature works like a charm. You can validate the legitimacy of this through ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot. Company is based in Barcelona, Spain, and has been operating since 2010. It's a great resource. Using this is typically a lot faster than going back to the source and trying to obtain an unlocked file from them. Be mindful not to adulterate information in the document and be sure to adhere to copyright laws.
Drag the PDF into Google Chrome to open it in the browser, then click the printer icon to print to PDF. The printed PDF should be unlocked.
Before you go getting all crazy with the Cheeze Wiz, try this:
Go to your thumbnails panel and rt. click, if you have the option to Extract Pages, extract the pages to Individual files. 99.9% of the time this is all you need to do. Then you can simply recombine them and the lock has gone away. Just save the new file as unlocked or something and you're gtg.
Occasionally, the person who has locked the PDF has left it so that you can unlock it easily. In the Signature properties there will be a button that you can click that will say unlock for editing. Just click and then save.
Opening it in Chrome CAN cause a few issues like unrecognized fonts or rotated pages or a few other issues. Try the easier routes first. Let us know what worked best for you.
Oh leave the Engineers out of things….lol. You won't know what hit you.
Easy there @Doug McLean. 😎
