Templates to Keep Parent and Child Layers

At present I can't use the Template drawings as they lose the parent and child layers when they are saved as a new drawing to be marked up i.e. all the layers default back to a single 'level'.

Can this be updated to ensure the staged layers are maintained.

Would it work @Vince French to use a "cover sheet" that has the layer structure established? It wouldn't be saved as a "template", just a page that you add to the front of your drawing package to establish the layers, that you could then remove later if it didn't add anything long term to your process.

I use a cover sheet to bring in "standard" items - General Conditions, Mobilizations, Layout, Testing, etc. so that I don't have to apply those markups to my takeoff sheets. These all are assigned layers. While I don't use child layers, I don't see why this wouldn't work?

Yes that does work @David Cutler - I would just like to be able to use the template as it is supposed to be used. That way I won't have to remember to rename and save the cover sheet before I start using it. 🤣

I avoid the need to rename anything @Vince French by opening the cover sheet, copying it and then pasting the page into my takeoff file (I'm one of those folks who work in multi page PDF files)… Only thing I have to do at that point is establish a bookmark so I can navigate to it quickly…

I see @David Cutler - my situation is a bit different then. I have a file set up with oversized pages where I can load in multiple A3 pages onto a single one. Basically, I can take all of the elevations, floor plans, sections, etc. and have them on one master drawing - it makes it far easier than flicking through loads of individual pages.
