If a server goes down or there is a large DNS issue (like BB experienced today in USA), it can severely impact productivity. With the new cloud-based license subscriptions, if a user cannot connect to a server to authenticate, the software does not work. This is unacceptable for a company as large as Bluebeam to have issues of this magnitude (this morning for 6-8 hours, possibly longer for some). Personally, for me, I was unable to use BB printer as that is part of the BB stapler, which somehow appears to be tied to BB Studio (talk about a convoluted mess).
Autodesk's solution is to cache credentials, and the licensing service has to ping the internet approximately every 30 days (max) to renew. Typically, the service checks on a daily basis, but the credentials are saved in case the device is not connected to the internet.
Just a thought, but this could be a viable solution vs literally shutting down companies.
