We have many projects moving through our office simultaneously. Many people are involved in many projects, and their involvement might vary from being designer or drafter, to just being a reviewer.

A regular point of pain is where each project needs to authorise access to each person to a session. It would be useful if a company could choose that the default (for them) is that sessions are open to any users within a list of users. That way, sessions would be more similar to PDF files on a file server.

This friction was enough for us to give up on sessions, but it does have advantages, and if this was fixed, we would move back.

What would stop you from re-organizing your sessions to include drawings from multiple projects? I know that the list of documents can be unruly - there are many posts on this website asking for Session folders to better organize.

In the meantime, could some careful naming conventions and forethought change the way you structure sessions away from project by project to something that makes more sense? By Department? By project phase? By Studio? I can think of a lot of organizing variables less granular that sessions per projects.

We might have 100+ projects live at any given time, and each would generate multiple rounds of checkprints in the course of doing the work.

It would get very clunky very fast to have to scroll through the myriad unrelated projects and files to find the one you're interested in. Theoretically possible with a level of discipline seldom seen in the real world, but if we're moving back to sessions, i want it to be an improvement on when we last used it.

If this is a feature that has been sought for a long time without action, it may be that this is not something that bluebeam is not keen to develop, and we need to look elsewhere for this kind of functionality.

I think the folders option is coming… have only seen these comments within the last year or so on that front.

LOL to your point about "level of discipline"… I get that - We have PMs in our office carefully structuring their Sessions so that the scrolling is easy-not-clunky with naming conventions essentially organizing the list to be readable at a high-speed scroll and intuitively categorized.

On the other hand, we have PMs that haphazardly starting multiple new session at the drop of a hat for the same project, just to markup another phase with a mess of long-a55-random-clunky file naming conventions. Not good.

I am trying to herd these cats and standardize - convinced it can work. Interested in your issue with that volume. Enjoy trying to solve these problems… Office standards go a long way toward tackling a lack of individual discipline. The Executive suite has to buy in and sponsor the standards though, make it something everyone wants to employ. Change management 101….
