Revu for iPad to Retire on December 31, 2025

For over 12 years, the Revu for iPad app has been supporting jobsite teams with tools for markup, measurement, and communication. As the industry has changed, so have expectations for how work gets done in the field – and the tools for doing it. That’s why Bluebeam is announcing the upcoming retirement of Revu for iPad from the App Store.

On December 31, 2025, the following apps will be removed from the App Store, and Bluebeam will no longer support them with future updates or technical support.

While Revu for iPad has served its purpose well for some users, it wasn’t designed for today’s connected jobsite or modern expectations for reliability, access, and collaboration, and we haven’t been investing in it for several years now. The AEC industry and you need better. That’s why we’ve been focused on our Bluebeam Cloud approach instead: one mobile solution built to support the way construction teams work today - from the office to the trailer, to the field, to everywhere you go.

Can I use Revu for iPad after it’s retired?

You can still use Revu for iPad on your current device, as long as you don’t delete the app or update your iPad to a version of iOS that the app doesn’t support. But it won’t get any updates or support, and it won’t be in the App Store anymore.

How can Revu for iPad users prepare?

Revu for iPad will remain available on the App Store through the end of 2025. If you love Revu for iPad, and if you are thinking about when to purchase a new iPad, consider getting one and installing Revu for iPad on it before December 31, 2025.

Bad move, guys. People want an iPad app. People aren't fond of Cloud. So what do you do? The exact opposite of what people actually want. Get rid of the iPad app and double down on Cloud.

I love Bluebeam, but this is the wrong move.

Bluebeam Cloud, on the other hand, is our current mobile app available on both iOS and Android, which we are continuing to improve. Let us know if you have any questions—we’re happy to help clarify!

Cloud is not what people want. It doesn't have the same functionality. People want a full-fledged app for mobile.

Hi @Liz Larsen! We really appreciate you sharing your perspective. Just to clarify—we’re not doubling down on “Cloud” as a concept, but rather on a new mobile app built on modern, more reliable technology that will ultimately meet and exceed what Revu for iPad offered.

We’re serious about making mobile work independently of the cloud. Starting this summer, the app will support offline file access so you can open and work on files stored locally on your device—no upload required. Cloud features will still be available for those who need them, but they won’t be required to get started.

We also understand that the name “Bluebeam Cloud” may be causing confusion, and we’re taking strategic steps to evaluate a name change to better reflect the direction we’re heading.

We know Revu for iPad has been important to many users, and we’re not taking that lightly. Retiring legacy apps allows us to focus our resources on building the right long-term solution—and we’re making steady progress toward that goal. Thanks again for being part of the conversation.

Hi Liz, thanks again for sharing your thoughts. Just to clarify—“Cloud” is simply the name of the app right now, not the foundation we’re tying mobile to. As I mentioned in my other reply, we’re actively working toward an offline-first mobile experience that doesn’t rely on cloud storage to be useful. We hear the need for a full-featured mobile app, and that’s exactly what we’re building.

It does not sound like you're listening to your users. We don't want Revu for iPad to go away, we want it to work a lot better! This is an app my team uses every time we go out to a site, and it works reasonably well if the files are stored locally. Obviously there is a lot of room for improvement, and the app development seems to have been stagnant for years but it's still an important tool.

I know Revu for iPad has been a critical part of your workflow, especially when working with local files, and I hear you - it’s helped a lot of people get their jobs done. I also know it hasn’t kept up, and that’s part of the issue we’re trying to fix.

The reality is, the app’s architecture just isn’t built in a way that lets us deliver the improvements folks like you have been asking for. It’s kind of like trying to remodel a house with a crumbling foundation - it makes more sense to rebuild it the right way. That’s exactly what we’re doing with the new mobile app.

Sad news imo. You say it was never intended to work in an enviroment like today, yet it hasn’t received an major update for nearly a decade.

And Bluebeam Cloud has been a work in progress so long it’s embarrassing.

Don’t get me wrong. I really appreciate what you have done for PC users. But in a world with so many different devices you have a lot of work to do. And you’ve chosen to ignore them.

I have a hard time seeing Bluebeam as s player in this market anymore, meaning that this is the timeline we have to migrate from Bluebeam to Dalux, Fieldwire or something else for mobile users.

Not because we want to, but because we have to.

Hi @Matias Leinikka! Thanks for sharing your thoughts—it’s completely valid to feel disappointed. Revu for iPad hasn’t seen meaningful updates in a long time, and that’s something we’ve been aware of. The reality is, its architecture simply couldn’t support the kinds of improvements people have been asking for. That’s why we made the decision to invest in building something new.

We’ll be the first to admit that Bluebeam Cloud didn’t start off the right way. It launched as a separate, disconnected product, and that caused confusion and frustration. Over the past year, we’ve taken steps to correct that—retiring Field Tools and Cloud Projects, and shifting our focus toward unifying Bluebeam across platforms with Studio at the center.

Now, the mobile app is finally being built on a foundation that can support the future. We’re bringing back familiar capabilities from Revu for iPad—like markups, measurements, and offline file access—with a cleaner interface, better performance, and more room to grow. The goal is not just to catch up, but to create something more powerful and reliable for mobile users moving forward.

We know it’s been a long wait, and we appreciate you sticking with us. Your feedback helps shape the direction we’re taking, and we hope you’ll give the new mobile experience a try as it continues to evolve.

We kind of like what we see in BB Cloud app, but there are tons of gaps and it is WAY behind your competitors. Can you address the following and the timeframes when these functionalities will be done:

Speed is a major issue. Files over a couple MB makes BB Cloud app croak.
Measurements - Completely missing
Offline capabilities
Search
Ability to fill out forms

Shawn, your Cloud app is not ready for prime time. Here is my test report: Downloaded the app from the app store onto the iPad (iPad Pro 12" M1 running iOS 18.4). Opened Cloud and signed in. Cloud pops up an error "System Error. Something went wrong. Try again later." I close the error, then open a recent Studio session and select a file. The progress bar creeps across as the file downloads, then the Cloud app crashes. I open the Cloud app again and follow the same steps, and the file opens. I try some of the tools (very limited amount of tools available) and draw a cloud. There is no "capture' option for the cloud markup. I go to the cloud's properties and see that there is a 'Comments' tab. I click the Comments tab and the Cloud app crashes. I re-open the Cloud app and try again, same sequence of selecting the Comments tab on the same cloud markup, and the Cloud app crashes again.

Now, I realize this is a public forum and normally I would relay my experience here with your Cloud app to tech support, but you're telling me to 1) use the Cloud app and 2) that you're discontinuing the app which we currently use and works more or less for our needs. The cloud app is clearly not ready. Perhaps your team could bring the Cloud app up to snuff, encourage migration over to it, monitor to ensure user experiences and app performance is acceptable, and THEN announce the current app will be discontinued. I look forward to a better Bluebeam mobile app that is stable, responsive, and has the functions we all need to do our field tasks efficiently.

Hi @aching! Thanks for this kind of detailed feedback—it’s exactly what helps us prioritize the right things. We hear you, and we know there’s work to do. We’ve identified four key areas we need to deliver on to meet your expectations, including:

Access to files, online or offline: We’re on track to support full offline workflows, including Studio files, by the end of H1 2025.
Markups and editing tools: iOS currently supports 11 markup types, and Android supports 3. We’re expanding based on the most-used tools first, with more coming on Android throughout 2025.
Tool Sets: We’re working on syncing Tool Sets from desktop and web to mobile—targeting end of 2025 for iOS and early 2026 for Android.
Measurements: Basic measurement tools are planned for the second half of 2025 and beyond.

Search and forms are absolutely on our radar too - but first, we’re focused on getting the fundamentals right: fast, reliable access to files and tools that support how you actually work in the field.

Thx for your reply. Probably #1 on our list right now is the speed issue in the field. Any thoughts on where you folks are headed on this or will this be continual work arounds for nearly all of us who deal with large sets.

Lastly, any immediate thoughts on best practices for those of us on it now to make it more usable?

I’m guessing your files include a lot of embedded content—and you’re likely keeping everything in one file to maintain a single source of truth. Totally understandable. But once file sizes get into the hundreds of megabytes, mobile devices (even the newer ones) can start to struggle—especially compared to desktops or laptops.

In my experience, performance issues are usually tied to heavy use of embedded markups, images, markup layers, or combining multiple disciplines into a single file. That approach helps avoid duplication, but it can create a real strain on mobile performance.

For now, one of the best practices is to prep files for mobile in Revu ahead of time—filtering out unnecessary layers or splitting large files into smaller sets. Uploading them into a Studio Session is currently the best way to markup on iOS, but we’re working to support markups on local files and Studio Projects as well, so you’ll have more flexibility soon.

Let’s connect in more detail and see if we can find a good short-term workaround while we work toward better long-term solutions.

You're absolutely right—our goal is not to roll out something that throws errors, crashes, or limits your workflow. I just don’t understand the obsession with putting everything “in the cloud.” Not having the full-featured app with jobsite files locally stored is a serious step backward. One of my jobs alone is over 150GB—streaming is not realistic.

We've tried using Bluebeam Cloud, and honestly, it’s useless compared to the native app. Most jobsites don’t have high-speed internet, and cellular service is often weak—or non-existent.

The same goes for the Windows version. I’ve tried the cloud version on a fully connected computer with high-speed internet, and even then, it’s completely useless for me. I can’t perform some of the most basic tasks that the desktop app handles with ease.

Bottom line: We only use the Windows and iOS apps. Without them, Plangrid is entirely worthless for us.

Thanks for your reply and for informing what you have in the pipeline. I’m confident that your forthcoming product will reach a point where it will be a fantastic addition to your portfolio. The thing is that companies need to make decisions based on current information.

If we, for example, are to wait out for a proper replacement we need to know exactly what will be released and when.

As for functions that at least we are looking for in a future application are:

Automatic sync between cloud & device
Batch functions in cloud
Automated functions like ocr, symbol detections, hyperlinks
Possibility to create custom checklists
API (this is a big one for us currently)
Better import/export functions or similar for collaboration with other applications

Obviously most of these are not in the current BB for iOS either, but it’s the direction we’re going for.

Well… I for one am excited to see how this goes. I personally don't think any mobile experience has been that great and have said for a little while now that I wished Bluebeam would focus its mobile efforts on creating one great app instead of several just "good enough" apps. Will there be any form of community-based beta testing needed for any of this development?

Edit: I see many people are acting as though they are being blindsided when in fact they have nearly 9 months of support left, plus any additional time they can get out of their app while it's in this discontinued state. I feel like that could be plenty of time to iron out some of the Bluebeam for mobile issues presented here so far. I could be completely off base here, but this sort of thing is kind of just how mobile apps are. They can't be endlessly updated without eventually requiring a complete overhaul to keep up with current technological standards. Even super long running apps like Youtube and Facebook have been through these same growing pains. I remember how confusing it was to see that there was a "different" Facebook app, when they switched it up years ago. It isn't pleasant for the user to adjust every time, but it's often actually a good sign when a developer sees the need to start a completely new app. It's a sign of longevity and forecasted growth, IMO.

I mirror Liz's sentiment. We are very reliant on Revu for iPad and the use of Projects to access files from anywhere. The check out and check in process is ideal. I do hope that prior to retiring this app their is a solid app replacement in place. I don't want to have to explore alternatives as we have invested money, time, and training into making Bluebeam our choice for the past 11-13 years.

For an app to be viable, we need fillable forms, toolsets that are more comprehensive then the tools included with Cloud, and access to files from anywhere. Revu for iPad checked all those boxes.

I am excited to see what y'all come up with and would be happy to test!!

What are you doing Bluebeam, why would you take it away before giving us something to test out like any other time you have something new. I am not understanding how this makes sense.

So when is the new app going to be ready for us to use then since the cut off date has already been set.

Revu for iPad is being removed because its technology has become too unstable to maintain. Rather than continue supporting multiple apps, we're focusing our efforts on a single, modern iOS app moving forward.

Bluebeam Cloud for iOS is available today. While it started as a cloud-first app, we’re removing that dependency this year. You’ll soon be able to open and work on files stored directly on your device, making it more flexible for on-the-go work—even without an internet connection.

By the end of the year, we expect this app will meet most of your mobile needs—but your feedback is critical. The more we understand how you're using the app today, the better we can prioritize the right features for you and your team going forward.

@bcostlow, I really appreciate this perspective, and you're spot on! Revu for iPad helped a lot of users for a long time, but its foundation made it hard to keep evolving. This year’s shift is all about building something more sustainable, not just replacing what existed.

We’re working toward that “one great app” and removing the dependency on cloud-first workflows is a key part of it. We expect the app to support most mobile needs by the end of the year, but hearing how people are using it along the way helps us make the right calls.

Hi @ArnoldP, totally understand - a 150GB project isn’t something you want to stream from the cloud.

Right now, Bluebeam Cloud on iOS and Android works offline after you open a file - it syncs to your device so you can access it later without a connection.

What’s coming soon is an offline-first experience. You’ll be able to mark files or folders in Studio to keep them ready for offline use - no need to manually open everything ahead of time.

And if your files live locally, not in the cloud at all, we’ve got a solution for that too. Later this year, you’ll be able to open PDFs directly from Files, iCloud, or your DMS - and save changes back when you’re done.

You’re right - up to now, we’ve been building for cloud-first use. Feedback like yours is helping us shift that, and we appreciate it.

So Sad. Been trying to convert to the cloud but so much of what I've built for Revu doesn't work on the cloud so I stay with the iPad app where it works.

Hello @Shawn Dawson - Here at A&M we have many uses for the app/studio projects. Below is my outlined use and how it is built for us by me.

Also I would love a better version of the iPad Revu app or whatever you all want to call it. Just so long as you are using what is on the Revu app now as a starting point and building from that. Giving us more tools, the ability to do other things is great. Also having access to ShareFile is just icing on the cake, because that is what we use as well to manage/store our project documents. It gives our field personnel the ability to use the Bluebeam app markup tools and measurement tools for other documents we don't house in studio projects.

QC Observation/Deficiency Reporting - All project floor plans are pre-spaced out for user ease and quick workflow. Custom mark-ups columns for reporting (would like to have the ability to edit the preloaded/existing columns already provided, but do not mind creating them, just an extra step). Custom icons have been created for each topic/trade for ease of my field not having to type each item that can be repetitive, which is necessary for us to be able to continue to have the ability to provide this for them to use out in the field. When attaching photos to the icons we would like to have the ability to markup the photo after taking it on the iPad and then finalizing the photo attachment to the icon (most times it is useful to cloud or draw a arrow on the photo to further point out the issues being reported, feel this is best practice with proper documentation of a project).

Safety Reporting - All project floor plans are pre-spaced out for user ease and quick workflow. Custom mark-ups columns for reporting. Custom icons with OSHA violations codes already associated with the icon accordingly using the custom columns created in the mark-up template. Fill form pdfs created for incident reporting and toolbox talks. Custom stamps used by Safety director and coordinator. Reporting CSV format allows us to keep track of how many times an employee has had an infraction. How many times, for example a “loaded unattended tool,” has been reported in a month for each project. It helps the department know what safety retraining is needed to prevent those safety concerns from continuing to be an issue.

The check-in/checkout feature is especially useful, it keeps each user using the files accountable for their actions when working in these files and prevents multiple people using the file at the same time (overriding each other’s work). Also having the detailed workflow history is extremely useful for us in seeing it all in one place. Recovery history is necessary, as I get many field people that make mistakes, and I need the ability to recover the information that might have been lost when they have revised a file.

Layout –We use all measurement tools and snapshot tool to create an email or RFI on the fly.

We use all markup tools already in Revu iPad app.

We use custom reporting templates I have created for each project and are uploaded to create the pdf reports for record keeping.

I am really hoping I don't have to shop around for a different app, this will kill me and I am not being dramatic at all. Our company relies on Bluebeam 100%. For a small family owned company in this competitive industry that is trying to stay in the game per say, it would be challenging with out all we have built in Bluebeam to keep proper digital records for our work.

@Matias Leinikka, it sounds like you have a really clear picture of what’s needed—not just for mobile, but across platforms and back in the office too. Here’s how we’re thinking about each of your points:

Automatic sync between cloud & device – This is one of our top priorities right now. We’re aiming to release this in the coming months.
Batch functions in cloud – Since Studio is now the service connecting mobile and desktop, batch actions will likely live in Revu/Studio first.
Automated functions like OCR, symbol detection, hyperlinks – These are more suited for office workflows. The idea is to prep and process in Revu or Web, then distribute to the field.
Custom checklists – We’re reintroducing issue tracking and a form-based solution next year, built around markup tools, so teams can define their own workflows and apply them consistently in the field.
API – Totally get why this is important. We do have a developer portal at api.bluebeam.com if you haven’t checked it out yet.
Import/export and collaboration with other apps – This is a big focus for us too. File access and export from mobile will land this year. Real-time collaboration will still be through Studio Sessions for now.

2025 is going to be a big year for Bluebeam Cloud, especially for users like you who rely on Studio Projects and DMS workflows.

Right now on iOS, you can access files from Studio Projects, and anything you open is stored for offline access. In the next few months, we’re adding the ability to check files out, make edits, and check them back in—plus a true offline-first sync experience so you can mark files or folders to keep on your device ahead of time.

We’re also building support for opening files stored locally through Files, iCloud, or your DMS app of choice. That’ll be a first for the app and unlock a whole new level of flexibility.

Once that’s in place, we plan to shift focus back to Tool Sets and basic measurements. We’d really value your input on what should come next, especially ahead of Revu for iPad’s retirement.

Hi @Shawn Dawson I wanted to share my excitement about your comment about the mobile app "meeting most of your mobile needs"! Although the timeline is tight, I'm optimistic and I'm ready, willing, and able to test it out.

Transitioning and training field staff will be a challenge, but I believe it's worth the effort if Bluebeam provides the mobile app to meet our needs as Revu for iPad does. Filling out forms such as project-specific test certifications is crucial, along with marking up progress drawings while utilizing our existing tools like sprinkler systems and our specific design symbols. We currently have hundreds of Studio Projects in use daily. We need seamless integration between Bluebeam Revu for desktop users and our field iPad users. Whenever I mention that Cloud doesn't work for us, Sessions always come up in the conversation. We need a solution that supports long-term Project collaboration, not short term collaboration like Sessions.

I've had the opportunity to meet with the Bluebeam team and demonstrate how we use Revu for iPad. I am hopeful that the insights from those discussions will be applied to the replacement application.

Everything you mentioned as a must-have is on track for this year. While we won’t have built-in form tools, we can support hyperlinks that open forms from wherever you manage them. Our sister app, GoCanvas, has a strong form-building system and is getting a Revu integration later this year. Definitely worth checking out if you haven’t already.

If Projects are your preferred workspace, you’ll be in good shape. We’re on track to support long-term collaboration from mobile, with all the key pieces coming together this year.

Also, absolutely - feedback from users like you, especially those who've taken the time to show us their workflows, has had a real impact on how we're shaping the next generation of our mobile experience. Looking forward to keeping the conversation going.
