Save Layer Collapse State

I make extensive use of layers when marking up technical documents. The ability to create child layers is helpful, but there is no way (that I have found, anyway) to collapse the group and then save the layer collapse state.
I would like to see "Layers" have the same option as "Bookmarks" in terms of choosing what is or is not collapsed. It would also be nice to have the other formatting options in layers (color, bold, italic).
