We're looking to invest in some estimating software and was just wondering whether Bluebeam is capable of doing what Planswift does
I use Bluebeam because I can easily manipulate drawings, customise markups to clearly detail what has been measured, add custom columns so my markups can be allocated to sections of work, etc.. I looked at several other packages but none of them offered me the flexibility that I needed to create different workflows for different trades.
@Peter Jury, I had a similar question on comparisons because PlanSwift is much more intuitive but the things required by Bluebeam to do takeoffs are hidden in tabs and tables where in PlanSwift I could make folders to store all my QTO takeoffs and the legends were much easier to customize.
What did you end up learning?
I don't use it for estimates but if that's a focus of your workflow, I would think you could make a custom profile where the tools you need are set to be easier to find. From custom Tool Sets to custom toolbars.
I have different profiles for measuring different trades - I even have several profiles just for measuring groundworks including foundations, external works, retaining walls, drainage, etc..
This is because not only do I only need certain tools for each workflow but I also have custom columns which collect specific information which I need in order to complete my tenders.
My tools are easily accessible but also many of them automatically generate the information for custom columns e.g. a sewer run from an internal SVP (foul drainage) will self populate with the fact that it starts with an SVP, it will be 100mm diameter pipe and in UPVC and the trench will have as dug back fill. For this item all I will need to do is enter the details of where it ends such as a manhole or joining onto another drainage run.
That sounds impressive @vfrench maybe you should make a how-to video.
Hi @Luke Shiras
This is a link to a video where I demonstrate the drainage workflow. You'll see as I am marking up much of the information required in the custom columns is prepopulated leaving the absolute minimum of manual input where there are 'variables'.
There are also a few 'bonus' bits in here such as exporting to Excel, copying markups from one scale to another, using the lasoo tool, etc..
Very nice, @vfrench!
Most of that went over my head but I could see how useful it was, @vfrench. Thanks for sharing.
is there a way to create page labels for a drawing set (ie 60-100+ pages), and then also add page numbering for sequential order (ie # prefix in front of custom page label)? it seems you can do one or the other, but not both?
In the existing Studio Project, I want to reorganize the folders without downloading them to my local drive and then uploading them back to the Studio Project. If I do that, I will lose the history of changes made to the set of drawings. Is there a way to move the folders within the Studio Project?
Resolved: Delete existing version and install old version. Question is in the title. I use the tool chest for my job, I make/edit/modify maybe 50-100 markups a day and whatever was done to the tool chest has ruined its functionality. A few examples: Double click to edit name is now extremely inconsistent. The markups are…
When rotating an object, line or other, an angle is displayed to identify how far you are rotating. That number is extremely small and almost impossible to read. Can it be made larger? And is there a way to manually input the rotating angle to allow for precise rotation?
Hi all, Strangest thing has happened where my measurement markups will not longer display. I am able to set scales, set the start/end of the measurement, the preview measurement appears but after clicking again, the measurement disappears with no markup. Online advise says there is a Option tab to check "Show Markup" but I…
I've run an overlay on an 88-page project with lots of changes. When trying to print a physical copy, it gets hung up. Even printing in batches is slow because several pages lead to virtual freezing. Are there any tips on how to improve/speed up the printing process? I've flattened and reduced file size, but that has had…
I have over 20 tool sets, line types and hatches. If I open a second instance of Bluebeam, those tools do not show up. Annoying but not that big of a deal. The problem is, if I then close all instances of Revu, when I launch it again, sometimes all of my tool sets and hatches have disappeared (and they don't come back…
There should be a way to add layers in a pdf on blue beam studio to have to set them all up sheet by sheet then upload them is very time consuming each time a new sheet is added or if someone else adds sheet
I have the Revu Complete plan. Revu is largest user of memory on my system. Right now I have 4 plans open and my memory usage is at 2,486.6 MB I seem to hover around 2,000 MB. Could there be a setting I need to change which will reduce this usage? I have some lagging in other programs. I had attemped to use Studio once to…
I have recently been upgraded to Revu 21 and I remember my tools having custom properties applied for certain tools. Like attaching cost codes to specific tool chest items. I am not seeing the custom fields in the properties window now. Where did it move to?
