We're looking to invest in some estimating software and was just wondering whether Bluebeam is capable of doing what Planswift does
I use Bluebeam because I can easily manipulate drawings, customise markups to clearly detail what has been measured, add custom columns so my markups can be allocated to sections of work, etc.. I looked at several other packages but none of them offered me the flexibility that I needed to create different workflows for different trades.
@Peter Jury, I had a similar question on comparisons because PlanSwift is much more intuitive but the things required by Bluebeam to do takeoffs are hidden in tabs and tables where in PlanSwift I could make folders to store all my QTO takeoffs and the legends were much easier to customize.
What did you end up learning?
I don't use it for estimates but if that's a focus of your workflow, I would think you could make a custom profile where the tools you need are set to be easier to find. From custom Tool Sets to custom toolbars.
I have different profiles for measuring different trades - I even have several profiles just for measuring groundworks including foundations, external works, retaining walls, drainage, etc..
This is because not only do I only need certain tools for each workflow but I also have custom columns which collect specific information which I need in order to complete my tenders.
My tools are easily accessible but also many of them automatically generate the information for custom columns e.g. a sewer run from an internal SVP (foul drainage) will self populate with the fact that it starts with an SVP, it will be 100mm diameter pipe and in UPVC and the trench will have as dug back fill. For this item all I will need to do is enter the details of where it ends such as a manhole or joining onto another drainage run.
That sounds impressive @vfrench maybe you should make a how-to video.
Hi @Luke Shiras
This is a link to a video where I demonstrate the drainage workflow. You'll see as I am marking up much of the information required in the custom columns is prepopulated leaving the absolute minimum of manual input where there are 'variables'.
There are also a few 'bonus' bits in here such as exporting to Excel, copying markups from one scale to another, using the lasoo tool, etc..
Very nice, @vfrench!
Most of that went over my head but I could see how useful it was, @vfrench. Thanks for sharing.
I am trying to get or develop a way how I could get an automatic distance between two devices taking into account some parameters that I define
If I measure some items several times, and then an hour later find some more to measure, can I reuse the markups I used initially without adding to the Toolbox? I see there is a format painter but this just changes the markup appearance without changing the markup properties such as layer, description, etc. If I added…
I'm using the mobile app for iPhone and my project recently stopped updating all the changes I make on my laptop. I'm currently running back and forth taking pictures of different details and going back to the building to layout work for my guys. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I hope it's something really dumb…
I am open to purchasing a higher license, but first I want to see if this will work like I am hoping it will. My company adds user data in a spreadsheet (e.g. IP Addresses, SN, etc), and we would like that info to go directly into our as built drawings. The idea being that we would only have to update the information in…
I am looking for a way to organize my existing layers on a project that I am working on. I have yet to find a way to move the layer to a sub group. In this example I would like to move all my overlays to one group (Overlays would then contain Power, HVAC & Roof).
I seem to have quite a few tools that are not accessible. How do i activate them?
I drew two lines and want to measure a distance from the intersection of the two lines to another point, however, I cannot seem to find where the snap controls have been moved to in BlueBeam Revu 21.8. For reference I have snap to content and snap to markups both enabled.
What are these numbers used for starting from 1 to how many mark-up tools you have, as per below 1-8? it's not on any other mark-up tool in my Tool Chest
Am I missing something? I was previously using revu ipad in the field for viewing drawings and scaling plans. I have recently updated to a bluebeam subscription and downloaded the new app on the ipad, I have not been able to figure out how to scale on the ipad. I have been able to do this on the web app on my computer but…
Hi All, When I Slip Sheet in Revisions from the Batch menu I already have to manually match my files due to filenames issues. The frustrating part for me is that I also have to manually add the Set Tags because of drawing format. Is there a way to have BB autofill the tags from the Current Matched pages to the Revised…
