I am proposing a change to Revu that will help alleviate one of the issues I have been facing listed below.
Please allow for a tool's layer to be deleted from the tool chest. As some may know, tools randomly acquire layers while using markup layers. This will happen to me multiple times a day.
To show the silliness of this current functionality, take a tool with no layer, and add any character and hit ok. When you go and try to remove it you can't.
The list of issues I am facing with tools are:
- Tools corrupt over time, making a restore or similar necessary while estimating a job. Problem with this “solution” is that you lose any information added to the tool (label) when you do this, making it undesirable during a project.
- Inability to select text – having to rewrite the entire line of a label is very time consuming and frustrating when one could simply select a few characters and rewrite those. Use case is circuiting, where a tool has a set subject, and the label changes on each “homerun” to generate a list of labelled circuit runs. Instead of hitting backspace or retyping the entire panel name schema it is easier to select the specific part that changes.
- Tools acquire layers at random. Our team uses the “markup layer” feature to keep organized while estimating, but I suspect this causes certain tools to acquire these layers. This wouldn’t be a huge deal, except for the fact that as soon as a tool in a chest acquires a layer it is impossible to remove without restoring or similar. Older version of Revu allowed you to erase this (tested 21.1 to verify.)
