Earthwork Cut & Fill Computation

Has anyone developed a practical method in Bluebeam Revu to calculate earthwork quantities from grid levels or contour drawings?

I am looking for a workflow where the existing ground levels and proposed formation levels can be compared systematically, preferably using a grid-based approach, so that cut and fill depths can be identified and volumes calculated.

Any examples, screenshots, tools, custom columns, or recommended methods would be appreciated.

I haven't found a way in Revu to auto-compare two elevation grids and spit out volumes, that's really a civil/earthworks software job (Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, that kind of tool). Revu's own Volume tool only works off a single traced area plus a depth value you type in yourself, it doesn't read levels off the drawing or compare two surfaces for you.

The practical grid-based route I'd use in Revu: draw a grid of cells over the site with the Rectangle or PolyLine tool, matching whatever spacing your existing and proposed levels are given at. For each cell, work out the cut or fill depth yourself (existing level minus proposed, averaged across the cell's corners), then apply that as the Depth value on a Volume measurement for that cell. Label each one with a cell reference and cut or fill so the Markups List stays readable.

Once every cell has its own Volume measurement, add them to a Legend or pull a Markups List Summary, that gives a running total and exports to CSV for a final reconciliation in a spreadsheet. It's manual per cell, there's no live formula linking an existing/proposed pair of columns to auto-generate the depth.

If you're doing this across large sites regularly, worth raising as an Idea on community.bluebeam.com, a proper grid earthwork takeoff is the kind of thing that'd save a lot of people the spreadsheet step.
