Is there a way to use sessions offline on a IPad or mobile device? I was at a site visit today in a basement and I got kicked out of my session when I lost signal and could not log back in till later in the walk through.
Hi Cory Doerksen
Yeah this is a known pain, Sessions need to stay connected the whole time since it's live syncing between everyone in it, so once signal drops you're basically getting booted no matter what device you're on. Honestly for basements/dead zones I've just stopped using Sessions for that kind of walkthrough. Studio Projects work way better since you can check the file out before you head down, do all your markups completely offline, and it just syncs back up whenever you climb back to a signal. No dropouts mid-walk. If you're already stuck in a Session and feel signal dying, quick save a local copy first. Saved me a headache more than once when the reconnect didn't go smooth.
Thank You
Hi @Cory Doerksen,
Are you using the old Revu for iPad app or the current Bluebeam app available in the iOS App Store?
In the current app, losing your connection should not remove you from a Session. Any Session file you open while connected is cached on your device, allowing you to reopen and mark it up offline. As long as you remain signed in, your changes should sync automatically once your connection returns.
If that isn’t what you experienced, please contact support@bluebeam.com with your device model, app version, and any other details about what happened. This is not the intended behavior, and I’ll make sure it’s escalated to our mobile team.
Hi Shawn.
I still have an old version of BB Revu for my IPad. I still use it for site visits.
I was using sessions and got booted out while in the basement of a walk through.
Next time i will try using projects and will turn on offline use.
I wish you would bring back Revu for IPad, it was much less convoluted than BB Cloud.
Hey Corey, thank you for clarifying.
Revu for iPad was released in 2013, and Apple has since deprecated the framework it was built on, preventing it from working on the latest versions of iOS. Separately, its one-time purchase model could not sustainably fund continued development, so we stopped adding new features nearly seven years ago.
What specifically feels convoluted about the current Bluebeam app? We’re getting closer to Revu for iPad parity while providing better offline support across iPhone, iPad, and Android. We also removed “Cloud” from the name to clarify that the app does not require a constant internet connection.
