how to create a legend from multiple, sequenced markups and get accurate quantities

I have 14 different sequenced markups on this set of plans. Each has a different shape/color and count. I cannot figure out, nor find the answer to, how to create a legend that does NOT list all of 900+ markups. I need a simple legend showing one of each markup and how many there are. I've unsuccessfully tried various how-to's from BB and Google, but I cannot get anything to work. Please help.

I haven't found a way to summarise a set of sequence markups - I guess that is because they are all slightly different. Unlike when you have the same general markups but there is a different colour being used and you can update the properties so they all match, this is not possible with a sequence. Maybe time to request a new feature to the Bluebeam team?

OK. I see what you are trying to do and it makes sense: you want a count object that also displays sequence numbers as markup.

I don't see any way to really do that, but a workaround would be to add only the last sequenced object to the legend, go to properties for the legend, and either select "Comment" or "Sequence" as the description:

or hit the "Edit Columns" button and add "Sequence" as a column.

You can then update your legend by either always adding the last placed marker and removing the other or updating the current marker in the legend to be the highest number (Right click, "Change Sequence Number…", and type in the new highest number—it won't let you go out of sequence).

I think you added the entire sequence to your legend rather than just one item. I think the easiest thing to do would be to

Delete your 900 entry legend
Select one item from one sequence with a single left click.
Right click the item and choose "Legend" then "Create New Legend."
Get that legend set up how you want it (Title, columns, etc.)
Now for one item from each of the other 13 sequences, left click, then right click and choose "Legend" then Your New Legend Name.

If that doesn't work, I may be misunderstanding your problem. More detail, a screenshot, or a sample file will help figure things out. Bluebeam's legends can be a little tricky sometimes.

Hi Dan, hope you are well doing

It sounds like your legend is pulling in every individual markup instead of grouping them

The key is that all similar markups need to share the same Subject (or Label, depending on how you're organising them). Once they're consistent, recreate the legend and group by that field so you'll get one entry per markup type with the total count, rather than hundreds of individual entries.

Hi Dan, thank yo for the reply. I did this before, but all I get is a quantity of 1 for each markup. I don't think you are misunderstanding my problem. Based on what I've read and tried, I don't think there is an automated solution to this. I believe because each markup in a sequence has a different number, it treats every single markup separately. For instance, if I have sequences of 31 red circles, 52 yellow squares and 14 green triangles, the legend will show 97 markups, not 1 of each with their qty's. I don't want to undo all the sequencing, but that's preventing the legend from providing the consolidated info I want. I'm thinking I'll just make my own key by placing one of each markup in a corner of the print and remember to subtract 1 from each number displayed in each markup…

Hi Vince, thank you for the reply. I agree with you: yes, they are all slightly different and no, there doesn't seem to be a solution for this without multiple manual steps. You'd think that because sequencing already provides a quantity with each last-placed markup in that sequence, a legend would be able to simply collect those values and populate a table…

Hey Dan, so that sounds like plausible solution. I'd already tried changing around columns and such in the legend properties, but not the way you're describing. I'll give that a try. Thank you.
