Segment Value - Column

Hi All, Would it be possible to get a column that shows the perimeter segment values. I often have to know the min width and max width of an object in reference to the object not the horz or vert plane. I do use width and height columns, but this gives the wrong result with the rotated 45' object. Perhaps if it was listed in the one segment values column i.e:

Label	Width	Height	Segment Values
Rectangle	0.12	0.05	0.05m,0.12m,0.05m,0.12m
Rectangle 45*	0.12	0.11	0.05m,0.12m,0.05m,0.12m

In the case of a square/ rectangle you have that in the form of the Width and Height columns.
The reason it does this on a rotated items is because it uses difference reference points. The work around is to draw it on an x/y plane and then rotate it to how you want it. Then the attributes stay the same

Thanks Doug, correct. But the things is i am often doing this for an entire factories worth on foundation on the angle. So the work around just becomes annoyance! Thats the annoying thing, i can see the segment data is their, but there is just no way to get it to excel.

Hi @Niall ,
Is there any reason that you need the segment values as well as the overall perimeter length?
If you have Max then you could do a Duplicate As on all of the areas at once to produce perimeter or polylengths. However, you'll then need to go into each markup and do a split all.
If all of the foundations are on the same angle then there may be another way of doing this - use the Deskew tool turn rotate the drawing and have the building on a 'horizontal plain'. However, I'm not sure how often all of the founds would be at the same angle.
London Unbound was great last week wasn't it - really glad it wasn't this week as I think the trains, etc. would have been unbearable in this heat!

Hi, Greats suggestions but its all about automation. I like to do my take offs as one item with custom columns, instead of doing multiple measures for one item. This allows me to export the data, plug it in to excel sheet for it to produce a bill of quantites.

The reason why the segment data would be handy, is that In the UK the rules of measurement RICS (SMM7), require "earth work support" to be measured in to different categories; this categories depend on distance between faces on excavations. <2m, 2-4m, +4m between faces. If i had the segment data, i would be able to export the data and do some excel magic.

Its all about, not having to trust myself to fix it after the fact. Especially when i can see the segment data, just no way to get it to excel. Currenlty i have just be making do, with width and height columns and ratio them out against the perimeter length (close by not correct, especially when its a long rectangle at an angle).

Two possibilities come to mind in that case: -

Custom area tools for each of the widths
A custom column where the trench width can be entered

Then in Excel you can use this info along with the perimeter to allocate your EWS automatically.

An interesting thing is that if you markup the area 'horizontally' then rotate the shape then the width and height dimensions don't change.

Yes, i have noticed if you mark up a rectangle, by holding down left click making a perfect 90* corner. Then it dosn't change when rotated. It does when using polygon.
