What it does
Every construction drawing set contains specification section callouts — keynote legends, general notes, detail callouts, and inline references like "SPEC SECTION 09 21 16" or "REF TO SPEC.05730." Manually verifying that each of those numbers actually exists in the project manual is tedious, error-prone, and almost never done before bid or permit submission.
This skill automates the entire check. It scans every sheet in your drawing set, extracts all specification section numbers it finds, cross-references them against your project manual, and highlights the results directly on the drawings — green for confirmed sections, red for broken ones. It also catches the reverse problem: spec sections present in the manual that are never called out on any drawing sheet.
Purpose: Verify that every specification section number cited on the drawing sheets exists in the project specification. Highlight confirmed references green; highlight broken references red. Flag unreferenced spec sections as orphans.
Requires two open documents in Bluebeam Revu:
- The drawing set PDF (sheets with callouts, keynotes, general notes)
- The specification PDF (the project manual)
Note: Claude will request that you switch between the two documents when required.
Produces:
- Green highlight markups on drawings where the referenced spec section exists
- Red highlight markups on drawings where the referenced spec section is missing

Pro tips
- Both files must be open in Revu before you start. Have your drawing set and your specification PDF open as separate tabs — the skill will walk you through switching between them.
- Filter by subject in the Markups List for instant triage. All highlights are authored "Claude" with subject "Spec Ref — Valid" or "Spec Ref — MISSING." Filter to MISSING to see only the broken references without scrolling through the full set.
- Red doesn't always mean wrong — it means missing from this spec file. On projects using a partial or abbreviated specification, many broken references may be intentional scope exclusions. Use the red highlights as a checklist to confirm with the project manual, not as an automatic error flag.
