Currently when you copy-paste a markup from one document to another it only copies the markup, and the 'comment' field. The status, author, and all custom columns get reset to default values.
I propose the following:
Option 1 - When copy-pasting a markup all metadata associated with that markup should be copy-pasted too. This includes replies, authors, data in custom columns, status history. Everything.
Option 2 - Create a central database of comments for a project. This would work similar to how Revizto or Bentley Infrastructure Cloud work. All the markups are still applied to the PDF as they currently are, but they are also added to a comment database. This database is then an alternative way to view comments for the project and allows comments to be applied to multiple documents, while still retaining history.
Why this is important
We use Bluebeam in our review process to transfer comments from an old revision to a new revision, if a comment hasn't been closed out. Since Bluebeam doesn't have a central comment register (like Revizto or Bentley Infrastructure Cloud), we need to manually transfer these comments. When we perform this copy-paste, all the history of that comment is lost, most importantly the Status and Replies.
What we've tried
- Batch slip sheet - this doesn't work on report style documents since the content moves around on the page and then the comment will be pointing at the wrong content.
- Export-import markups - same issue as batch slip sheet.
- Having an admin person manually export/import comments and re-align them to the correct location - hugely labour intensive and removes all productivity gains of using Bluebeam.
