Re: Take offs
The area tool will actually accomplish both. While the Area tool's primary measurement is Area, it gives other dimensions as well.
The Length of an Area markups is actually the Perimeter, plus it also will give you a height and a width.(just remember that the height will always be on the y axis and the width will always be on the x axis)
As you can see, if you set up your markups list properly, you can actually achieve both of your goals with one markup.

Edit: BTW, my custom markup is considered a Conduit Tag in case anyone wants to know its use. :)
Re: Disappearing Layers
I also am experiencing this. I'm not sure why saving my markups to a .pdf would delete certain layers, but it does, and it is a production killer. Having to go back and reassign all the layers is an unforeseen time-suck that needs to be addressed somehow. It is seemingly random as to which layers delete and which are retained at this point but I will try to pay more attention in the future.

Yes, that is also an issue I have seen. Bluebeam used to be cutting edge, it has fallen off with minimal improvements over the last 5 years. We also want a less secure version of studio sessions where multiple users can edit each others markups. Asked for that 7-8 years ago…crickets.

You just gave me an idea. Maybe this will help some in the meantime? I just made a bullet list using the character mapping you just used, and then saved it as a tool. Now I have a simple bullet list avaliable at any time. :)
I shared the tool set (attached) with just that tool in it in case it is needed for anyone browsing these parts.
